The house

Built in 2016. Finished like a house that has always been here.

Twenty West Chester Street is a KMS Design house on one of the quietest streets in Town — a great light corridor on the south side, protected vegetation behind, and no through traffic to speak of.

You come in through a wide foyer under a barrel ceiling, and the sight line runs the length of the house to a wall of windows in the living room. French doors on both sides of the fireplace open to the three-season porch, where new folding glass windows take the whole wall away and a gas fireplace handles the cool evening. The bluestone patio picks up the afternoon sun; the firepit takes over once it drops.

Four bedroom suites, each with its own bath, plus a shiplapped third-floor playroom with two built-in beds — so a four-bedroom house comfortably lives as a five-bedroom for ten. And the particular luxury of an in-town Nantucket summer rental: you can leave the car parked all week.

Why this house

What you are actually renting

Most Nantucket summer rentals ask you to trade one thing for another — the beach house that is twenty minutes from dinner, or the town house with no outdoor space. This one does not make you choose.

Location

A five-minute walk to Main Street

Cobblestones, the Whaling Museum, Straight Wharf and the ferry are all inside a fifteen-minute walk. Steps and Jetties Beach are a short bike ride north.

Space

Four suites, no shared baths

A first-floor suite off the kitchen, two guest suites at the front upstairs, and a master with a west-facing balcony. Then the playroom on three. Everyone gets a door that closes.

Outdoors

A patio you will actually use

Sunny bluestone, a full outdoor dining table, a firepit conversation area, a side porch and an outdoor shower — private, hedged, and quiet.

Comfort

Central air, and it matters

August on Nantucket can be humid. The house is fully air-conditioned, professionally cleaned before every arrival, and stocked with linens and beach towels.

Terms

Simple weekly booking

Saturday to Saturday, $30,000 per week, all in. No cleaning fee bolted on at checkout, no service fee, no resort charge.

Service

A person, not a portal

You book directly with the owner’s office. Provisioning, a chef, a boat charter, beach permits — ask and it gets arranged before you land.

The week

How a week here tends to go

Coffee in the breakfast nook before anyone else is up. Bikes to Steps Beach by ten, back through town for lunch. The afternoon splits — some people to the Whaling Museum, some to the den with a book, someone to the fish market on Old South Wharf.

Dinner is either at the outdoor table with a chef you booked in March, or a nine o’clock table at Cru because you walked there. Either way, the fire gets lit and the last people go up around midnight.

Then Saturday comes and someone says, out loud, that you should take the same week next year. Most of our guests do.
